AINBI submitted policy recommendations to Canada’s Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation focused on barriers Black communities continue to face in accessing, shaping, and benefiting from artificial intelligence.

AINBI also submitted recommendations to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada as part of the consultation on Advancing AI Transparency in Canada. Our submission brings a Black community perspective to AI transparency, accountability, fairness, responsible innovation, and economic opportunity.

What Is Black AI Policy Lab™?

Black AI Policy Lab™ brings together policy, research, community knowledge, and leadership to help shape a more responsible and inclusive AI future.

We engage governments, technology leaders, researchers, institutions, entrepreneurs, and communities to identify policy gaps and advance practical solutions.

Black Canadians should have a voice in the decisions shaping AI and a fair opportunity to participate in the economy it creates.

Why Policy Matters

Artificial intelligence is changing how people work, learn, access services, build businesses, make financial decisions, and participate in the economy.

These changes create important opportunities, but they also raise questions about fairness, transparency, accountability, access, and representation.

When Black communities are not represented in technology policy, decisions can be made without their experience, knowledge, or priorities.

Black AI Policy Lab™ works to bring Black voices into these conversations and help move policy from discussion to action.

National Advisory Council on Inclusive AI and Black Innovation​

Help Shape Canada’s AI Future

AINBI’s National Advisory Council on Inclusive AI and Black Innovation brings together leaders and experts from technology, universities, research, social services, public policy, entrepreneurship, business, and community organizations.

The Council provides strategic advice to AINBI, identifies emerging policy gaps and opportunities, strengthens national partnerships, and helps guide our policy and public engagement.

Council members also have opportunities to contribute to selected policy consultations, roundtables, research initiatives, and national discussions.

We welcome expressions of interest from experienced leaders in:

  • Research and Academia
  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation
  • Responsible AI and Digital Governance
  • Finance and Investment
  • Workforce Development
  • Social Services

The commitment is approximately four virtual meetings per year, with additional participation based on members’ interests and availability.
